Revitalising Leadership: A Leadership Development Programme for Adult Social Care

To this end a Leadership Programme, leading to a Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership, is now available. The course has been designed through in depth consultation with Assistant Directors and Heads of Service within Adult Social Care to ensure it meets the requirements for service transformation. It will be provided through a partnership between the University of the West of England, Exeter University, King’s Fund, and the South West Development Centre. We are hoping that it will receive formal accreditation from the newly created Leadership Academy. Indeed the partners who helped shape the content have been asked by the Leadership Academy to help develop the accreditation criteria for such courses.

The programme is designed to recognise and develop tomorrow’s leaders in the adult social care sector and to promote the knowledge and understanding needed to thrive in this increasingly complex environment. Demographic trends, service transformation, personalisation, the focus on service users and carers, and the drive to regulation of the workforce are amongst the factors intensifying the shifting demands on those in senior leadership roles in the sector.

This programme will bring together policy, research and practice to develop informed, resilient leaders who can think and act holistically in support of service development. It has been designed specifically for senior managers and leaders in adult social care across the South West and is set to play a key role in increasing leadership capacity to drive service improvement and transformation.

The deadline for Cohort 1 has passed – this was intended for Directors aiming to be Chief Executives or in larger organisations, Assistant Directors aiming to be Directors within a period of 3 years. However
