New guidance for commissioners and public and mental health promotion leads

The Government is committed to improving the mental health and well-being of the population.  World Class Commissioning offers many opportunities to support this priority for the benefit of individuals, families and communities.  The delivery of wide-ranging and sustainable well-being and preventative services needs to
span all agencies, recognising:

• different needs of diverse communities
• the need for action at different life stages and settings
• the wider determinants of mental health and illness.

New guidance
The International School for Communities, Rights and Inclusion (ISCRI) is developing comprehensive guidance for primary care, mental health and local authority commissioners; public health specialists; and health providers including voluntary and third sector.  Already engaging with key partners, ISCRI is keen to consult as widely as possible whilst taking the work forward. To get involved, please contact: Karen Newbigging on 07974 929367.
Final drafts are expected in May with publication online of the new guidance scheduled for summer 2009.
