Launch of Prison Healthcare Quality Outcome Framework Toolkit

The Quality and Outcome Framework (QOF) introduced as part of the General Medical Services Contract for General Practice in 2004 is a recognised and validated measure used in the NHS to support an annual quality improvement cycle. However, the Quality Outcome Framework is not completely compatible with prison healthcare and can be complex to implement. In order to address these issues, the Prison Health Innovation Network  http://www.healthcareinside.org.uk has developed a toolkit which offers step by step guidance to implementing QOF in a prison environment.  Using the experiences gained in Dorset, this QOF toolkit is designed for use in a prison with additional clinical domains to make it more appropriate for prison use. To access this toolkit, first register to become a member of PHIN at the following link http://www.healthcareinside.org.uk/register.asp.  As a registered member of PHIN, you will then have access to the QOF toolkit and other resources to support your work in a prison healthcare environment.

LEARN TO USE THE TOOLKIT

Carole Lawrence-Parr, Director of Strategic Development at Dorset Primary Care Trust, is running a training course on Thursday 5 February in London. Entitled “QOF for a Prison Environment”, this course will teach you how to implement the toolkit in your own setting and will give you the opportunity to work through issues related to your own prison healthcare environment.  For more information click  below.
