Department of Work & Pensions Consultation on Welfare Reform Green Paper

No one written off – reforming welfare to reward responsibility

This is a wide ranging document which contains many proposals and reforms across the benefit system, which affect all working age groups. It marks the further expansion of the rights and responsibilities agenda and also includes proposals for devolution down to the local area level and more freedoms for providers.

For a summary of the proposals most pertinent to employment and people with mental health conditions, relevant extracts from the Green Paper and a list of consultation questions are contained at the links below:

Many of the proposals have important implications for people with mental health conditions and the National Social Inclusion Programme (NSIP) is eager to obtain the views of as many stakeholders as possible to incorporate in their response. NSPI are particularly interested in views on the highlighted (bold) questions but welcome views on any of the questions. The deadline for the consultation is 22 October 2008 and contributions are required by 10 October 2008.
