Career Boost for Local People with Disabilities

"Energy2-work" will offer people with disabilities, learning difficulties or health conditions the support to learn work skills, gain qualifications and find full time employment. Energy2 will also work with The National Star College in Cheltenham to deliver a choice of qualifications.
Energy2-work offers practical work skills training such as catering, administration, IT and interview techniques.  In each of the work areas there is a commercial product that makes the project sustainable. These work areas are:

  • Energy2-burn - biomass heating
  • Energy2-grow - horticulture
  • Energy2-munch - catering
  • Energy2-care - staff agency services

Each cohort gets 13 weeks (or further weeks if necessary) of experience and some of the first cohorts will be available to discuss their experience as part of the presentation and in the networking.
Energy2 is managed by Enterprise Works and is part of Swindon Borough Council. Energy2-work is funded by the Learning Skills Council (LSC) and the European Social Fund (ESF). It aims to support local people with training and employment.  Trainees learn a variety of ‘soft skills' such as interview techniques and preparing a CV as well as undertaking a work experience placement.
Ann King, Supported Employment Project Manager at Swindon Borough Council said, "This is a marvellous step forward for people in Swindon who have disabilities or health conditions as it will allow them to learn and develop skills which can lead to employment within a variety of careers".
