Programme Description

Inpatient wards continue to be an essential element in providing mental health services in the NHS and, of these, acute wards play a key role in addressing the needs of people with mental health problems during times of crisis, relapse and ill health. (Healthcare Commission – The Pathway to Recovery)

Over the past decade a number of reports highlighted concerns about the quality of provision of acute inpatient services with clear evidence of unmet needs. In response, the government set out clear policy objectives along with capital investment to ensure that appropriate acute services are available as part of the pathway of care. We support and co-ordinate the improvement in the quality of local services across the acute pathway.

Acute Care Network

Our local SW acute network aims to facilitate local practice development and the sharing of good practice for all aspects of service provision around the acute pathway. The Network meets quarterly to address local needs and promote local good pratice. View Network minutes and documents.
